Knitting

Okay, so how hard is it to knit socks? I mean in the grand scheme of knitting. REALLY hard, or just Kinda hard, or no, it's not too hard, so just jump in and try it?
I can knit, purl, increase, decrease, all that fun stuff. I'm just looking for something knew and not too complicated to try.

I can knit socks. That's your answer, right there. Do you know how to knit in the round? Don't worry - I learned it in order to knit socks. Come up here with some yarn and we can have a pleasant weekend while the boys clean up your mother's garden.

Sounds like a plan. I fell in love with some yarn at Hobby Lobby today, but didn't want to commit if it was going to be a failed venture :)
I've got two scarves to knit as well - a friend of mine is adopting two girls from China, and I knit things for their other two daughters from China so.....

It's not hard. I've made a few pairs. If you use good sock yarn with a bit of give in it, they're pretty forgiving. Turning the heel is a bit of a pita & I can't do it without charts & sticky notes & a pencil & a furrowed brow of concentration but after that it's easy peasy. Self striping yarn makes it even more fun!

Go for it!

Hornblower,
What yarn brands do you like the best? Or do you just buy whatever looks good?

I'm going to disagree with your previous commenters. It's not only hard, it's impossible. Knitting is not actually possible. It's only done by people who have previously made arrangements with the devil, and all they're getting out of it is socks and sweaters. Some sweaters are worth it, mind you, but seriously? Hell? Big price to pay, and you won't be needing the sweaters there.

As you may have gathered, some of my friends endeavored to teach me to knit once. We won't any of us be making THAT mistake again.

Oh, but I like to knit. I've only knitted rectangles, mind you, but I find it very relaxing and something to do when I have time to fill....

Email Air Pilot Grant at piffle - she does -lots- of knitting, including socks. I knit too, but I don't do socks, because I can't find a pattern that has the kind of heels I like. I prefer a heel that goes back & forth from one point (and I don't know the name for that kind of heel), and all I can find are gusset patterns.
